Weekend review: On the farm

I didn’t exactly get up to a lot this past weekend, other than working on a major 2013 goal! One weekend out of the month, I head up to Humane Domain to study under a well-known behaviorist in the area. I’m actually always doing work (assignments, conference calls, etc), but this past weekend was our hands-on time.

All day Saturday, we worked with pups, not only to teach them the training basics, but to also teach US how to train and work with clients. I was familiar with a lot of the material since I had worked with a mentor to complete my ABC certification, but the day’s activities just helped glue it all together in my head.

Sunday was more of a standard classroom type of day, except for the afternoon when we went out to help train the goats. The day’s goals were to make sure we got our hands on them (to help become therapy goats), allow them to become familiar with a harness, and to ooh and ahh at them šŸ™‚

While training the goats, we had a few on-lookers. Like this alpaca…

He made me giggle, the skepticism in his demeanor (while natural) just cracks me up. We’ll be working with them a little further down the line. All in all, even though I wasn’t out partying, I did have a fantastic weekend working towards my own very important goal to become a national certified dog trainer and animal behaviorist. All good steps in the right direction!
