DIY: viynl painted bracelets

I made these bracelets awhile back, but forgot to share it with you somewhere along the way. So here you go…

I think I first spotted this project over on A Beautiful Mess. [quickly searches DIY bookmarks] Yes! I did see this project there. Credit goes to Elsie & Emma – original project here.

Naturally, I had to try it out for myself. I didn’t have any extra leather laying around, but I did have some extra vinyl from my sewing stool DIY several months back. I had also just purchased snaps from the sewing shop and a snap fastener for this very purpose.

Unfortunately, this project had a bit of a learning curve as it was my first time working with snaps. Sure I followed the instructions, but try as I may, I still ended up putting the snaps on the wrong side of the vinyl a few times. Once I finally got it right, I decided I wouldn’t waste my other attempt and used it all the same. See below for this very simple DIY.

1. To get started, I cut out a piece of vinyl a few inches wide and made sure it would fit around my wrist (with a bit to spare as well!). I attached my snap hardware…correctly (after a few tries!). Note: if you are painting from end to end, add snaps at the end.

2. Next, I laid everything out to paint. Elsie & Emma suggested Martha Stewart paint, but I snagged general craft paint at my local craft store (MS probably adheres a bit better than the general stuff). I used both ends of my paint brushes to create stripes and dots.

3. Because I had added the snaps incorrectly to another piece of vinyl, I decided I’d just paint the opposite side and see how that turned out too. It does bleed a little and soak into the material a bit more, but I still liked the outcome.

4. After your bracelets are dry, wear ’em out and have a good time!
